Project 42 – “Ronnie Lott” – Week 8

OK…  I blew off another week.  This is becoming a pattern unlike the pattern I set out to create.  On week 6, I went to the gym twice and ran 4 miles one day.  My calves did not hurt too much during the run but they hurt for several days after.  The run was difficult but I felt good for getting out and doing it…  The pain in my calves kept me away from going to the gym again or running again.  Hopefully, they are getting stronger but I need to be more consistent so I can stop blowing off exercise due to work pressure, pain, etc…

I need to get up early and exercise in the morning.  Last week I had my gym bag with me almost every day but could not bring myself to go to the gym because of work deadlines and once I get going at work the day goes by so fast that I never get enough done…  I need to get to bed earlier and exercise first thing in the morning to be consistent.  I am going to bed early tonight and running in the morning (or going to Gym if raining).

You’re doing fine Mark. IMHO this is exactly the process one needs to go through in order to discover how important consistency is in the beginning above all else. I went through this cycle for years before this really sunk in. I appreciate and understand the comments made by Trevor and Julie but I say defy the traditional message, and that is usually something in the way of “It’s not easy”. I think if this is the message we play in our minds then it makes it even easier to blow off exercise, as you put it. CHANGE THIS MESSAGE! Make it easy. Remember that even a 15 min brisk walk is exercise if done with intention. This act of consistency will go a long way towards re-wiring your brain in making it much easier down the road to exercise regularly. It doesn’t have to be a run, and it doesn’t have to hurt. It just has to be SOMETHING done with consistency. Make a schedule and stick to it. Pay close attention to the thought process when you make the decision not to work out. Make adjustments to the work out to address the excuses. Don’t be in a hurry to lose weight or get fit – it will all come in time, but it won’t come at all if you allow yourself to keep skipping off the routine. I know you can do it. I believe in you Mark.

Don’t be so hard on yourself. It takes alot to incorporate exercise into your daily routine when you are already so busy with work and your family. You are doing great and just have to find the time that works best for you. You are a Siechen I know you will do it . It’s in the blood not to fail…..)

Hang in there Mark. It isn’t easy at all. If it were everyone would be in shape, right?

Set realistic goals for workout times, etc. I know for me I could never do mornings as I am a night owl but if mornings work, do it. Keep it up.
