Day 2: I weighed myself last night with our new scale and I came in at 264.4 lbs. Alarm went off at 5:00…hit snooze…then rescheduled for 5:30. I got up, ate some string cheese and went out for a walk/jog. Shins and calves hurt but I think it is from skiing at Squaw Valley on Saturday and Sunday. Jogging made the shin pain go away so I jogged about 1/3 of the time trying to stay on the balls of my feet. I did 40 minutes this time and felt good other than soreness in legs. Maybe I will rest the legs tomorrow and do some ab work…
A couple things Mark. When you are running, ALWAYS strike on the ball of your foot. Never heel strike. Unfortunately modern day running shoes with the built up heel padding encourages poor running form by striking with the heel first. This is why barefoot running is so much more effective at making us run the way our bodies were engineered to run. But I don’t recommend even starting the barefoot thing until you are in much better shape and your weight is down.
Good work Mark – Start slow and avoid those injuries. You’ll look back in 6 months and laugh…I could only jog 1/3 of this!
Keep it up!
